Favourite beaches

1

Hope Cove – our closest beach, less than two miles away, traditional fishing village, fabulous sunsets

North Sands – beautiful backdrop, ideal place to relax and swim during low tide, dog friendly, a paddle boarding favourite, an easy 15 minute walk along Cliff Road from Salcombe

South Sands – sandy cove in low tide, facilities for canoeing, windsurfing and diving, no parking: the most fun way of getting there is taking the passenger ferry from Whitestrand Quay in Salcombe

South Milton Sands – sandy National Trust beach, wonderful for the children to splash around in the clear shallow waters at low tide, nearby Thurlestone beach can be a little quieter at peak times

Bigbury and Bantham – vast stretch of sandy beach with the iconic Burgh Island to walk to during low tides, surf tuition available

Favourite walks

From Driftwood – Five of the nicest Devon beaches are all within less than an hour’s walk if you fancy leaving the car at home: Hope & Soar Mill Coves, North & South and South Milton Sands. We have hung a local map in the landing for you to photograph and plan your walks. Down the valley to North Sands and back up the valley from South Sands is a beautiful one. You can also always take bus 164 back to the cottage from Salcombe.

Gara Rock Circular – beautiful views from the other side of the Salcombe Estuary. Take the passsenger ferry over to Mill Bay from Whitestrand Quay in Salcombe.

Snapes Point Circular - for 360 degree views down the Salcombe Estuary. Park at the Snapes Point National Trust car park.

Starehole Bay Circular – magical landscape with rocky pinnacles to the south of the Salcombe Estuary. Park at the Overbecks National Trust car park or by the Airfield.

Bantham Pub Walk – far reaching views towards Hope Cove on one side and Bantham Sands on the other, and a cosy pub awaits The Sloop Inn

Park at South Milton Sands National Trust, the car park on the other side of the beach at the top of the hill.
